Picking the right type of flooring for your bathrooms is important because the flooring needs to be durable and able to withstand the moisture. Here are 2 tips that will help you to know when you have found the right flooring material.

Water Repelling Abilities

First, you need to select a flooring product that can repel water or that will not absorb it. You should never use hardwood, laminate, or carpet in a bathroom because these materials do not work well with moisture. 

Wood and laminate are especially bad for bathrooms because they can warp, split, become moldy, and have a lot of issues due to the moisture content from showering. Even if you are just creating a guest bathroom that only has a toilet, you still need flooring that will not get ruined if the toilet overflows.

Also, carpet can get moldy, smell odd, or absorb smells from the bathroom after it has been in use for a long time. While you might see carpet in a lot of old bathrooms, you should avoid this in a new bathroom so that it is more sanitary.

Cleaning Abilities

Second, consider how easy it is to clean the type of flooring you want in your bathroom. The two best choices for a bathroom include vinyl and tile, but vinyl is much easier to care for.

The reason behind this is that vinyl does not contain grout, pores, or cracks that you cannot clean. Even if a piece of vinyl gets ruined somehow, you can cut the small piece away and replace it with a new piece of flooring. 

On the other hand, tile is really easy to clean as long as you do not stain the grout. If the grout gets stained, then you can hire a professional cleaning company to lift the stain out. Some people prefer tile to vinyl because it looks more high-end, and it also seals better to the floor.

Sometimes vinyl can lift up around the edges and can let water or moisture get underneath, but you will not have this problem with tile. The only other issue you have to worry about with tile is that it can crack if you drop something heavy on it. Replacing one piece of tile is not that difficult though, so you really cannot go wrong.
